August OCS- Asian Card Challenge
Since my buddy Linda took over the OCS, she's issued us some challenges! Last month's challenge was to use words as your focal point and boy was that hard for me! This month's challenge was a bit easier and oh so inspiring! She asked us to make an asian themed card. I love asian themed stamps, paper, etc. so I couldn't decide what to do for my card.
While purchasing Cupcake Anya from the TGF website, I shopped around to see if there were any other digis I wanted and decided on Karate Anya. I've always thought she was so cute but didn't think I had any use for Anya in her gee... and then it hit me! Her hairdo reminded me of Chun Li (any Street Fighter fans out there?) or Shampoo (any Ranma fans??), so I thought I could definitely do some altering and utilize that cute 'do. (or maybe she has the Princess Leia's donut rolls?).
Since the challenge was an asian theme, I thought it would be perfect to put Karate Anya's head on Geisha Anya's body. Honestly, I'm not that fond of Geisha Anya's head, so this was an exciting idea I couldn't wait to try. I think this was my first time altering an Anya. I cheated and just cut the kimono off of Geisha and put it on Karate. Sort of like paper dolls. I think it would freak me out to cut off Karate Anya's head!
Enough of my issues... for the rest of the card, I decided to use some washi paper scraps and Island Scrapbooking mini sakura laser cuts. Love how its cut with the glitter paper so I don't have to go over it with my stickles. Finished it off with a Hero Arts Kanji thank you stamp. Because gold mirrored cardstock is so scarce nowdays, I decided to use some old gold origami type paper instead. Since its a card (and not scrapbook), don't need to worry about being archival safe.
Here's a close up of Karate Geisha Anya. I added bows to each bun. Her kimono was colored with Copics and Spica (glitter) pens. I kinda like how the gold came out.
And as a tribute to my friend Teri... I decorated the inside of the card! My OCS partner this month was Myra... Hi Myra! Hope you like this card! I met Myra at one of Teri's classes awhile ago. She is so sweet and I'm so glad she started her own blog. Check it out here...

Is There Such A Thing As Too Much Fun?
Well, I'm back in Hilo and still recuperating from this weekend. I was very fortunate to be invited to this year's Islander Girls Social 2 that was on Oahu this past weekend. Teri and company hosted the event, which was so much fun! I met a lot of new friends but wish I had mingled a bit more cause I know I missed out on meeting some other bloggers that were also there that day.
Here's the gals on my table. I think we were labeled "the loud table" cause we were definitely the loudest ones there. I had met Linda, Kyoko, and Janis earlier, but was so happy to meet Jo, Kelly, Cindy, Jodi and Cami too! (and of course Debi who I came with). We had so much fun talking story and making our projects together.
Joy from Tamiko's was also there and brought her whole store with her! I totally scored on good finds that I can't get in Hilo. AND Tamiko's donated the prize for the card contest that I won!! (can you believe it?) Unfortunately, I didn't take a photo of my card (duh) to share with you so I guess I have no real proof that I won... do I? Guess you'll just have to take my word for it. I must say that I feel really honored that my card was voted by everyone there (who are all awesome crafters!). OK enough tooting my own horn (sorry, don't get to toot that often).
I know you've probably already seen all the projects we did at the event, so I won't re-post them here. If you haven't seen them yet, head on over to Linda's blog here to see what we did.
I think the funniest part of the day was when Michelle stole Linda's Edward and Linda didn't notice it for awhile. For more Pocket Edward's Hawaiian Adventures, check out his blog here... I wonder if Edward will write about that adventure?? Here's a photo of Kyoko and Linda... this photo just says it all!
After this fun filled day, Debi and I decided that it was time for more shopping!!! We hit several stores and had a blast. Thanks Debi for keeping me company! I think I did all the shopping and you only shopped for windows. Here's the two Hilo Girls (not originally from Hilo)...
Just wanted to thank Teri for the awesome job she did in planning this whole event and to all the ladies who came and made it fun!

Friends To The End
I'm on a easel card roll right now! Made this easel card using my new Hero Arts stamp set that is perfect as a background. It was a lot of coloring, but I like how it turned out. Added some stickles and crystals for some bling and then mounted it on a background using MS punches.
Decided to make Fleur Anya stand out by coloring her in yellow.
Here's the card when its opened...
And here's the close up of Anya...
