Just a note that we are ok here in Tokyo... a little shaken up (get it?) but ok for now. Just wondering how the heck we are going to get home tomorrow? I must comment on a few things since we're on the subject...
- Thank you to Randy and his wife Etsuko for inviting us to a last minute lunch today.
- Thank you to my DH for forgetting his jacket, which made us go back to the hotel after lunch.
- Thank you to the maid who had our room key and took about 1/2 hour for us to get in our room to get Paul's jacket.
- Thanks to me for deciding that leaving that late to go to Puroland was not worth it and we should just go tomorrow if anything.
If none of the above items occurred, we would have definitely went to Puroland today and would have either:
- Got stuck in the subway/train.
- Had to walk off the train on the tracks to get out of the station.
- Got stuck at Shinjuku station where thousands of people had to evacuate.
- Got stuck at Puroland.
- Had to walk home.
- Had to find another hotel to stay at for the night.
- etc.
While hanging out in the lobby during the aftershocks, I saw so many people getting turned away at our hotel who were trying to get a room for the night. After we left the hotel to get some food, we saw so many people lining up on the street (blocks long) waiting for the bus. The coolest thing about this whole situation is not one person panicked! Everyone remained very calm during the entire ordeal which is pretty amazing. Of course, we were not in an area where it was really bad, but overall I'm very impressed with how everyone is handling it. I on the other hand was having a meltdown inside, but held it together since no one here would understand me anyway.
Now we are waiting to hear what is happening back home. Praying for all of you back in Hawaii- stay safe!
I'm so glad you are okay! It would have been so scary to be far from the hotel or in the subway while the earthquake hit. Those were some serendipitous events that kept you safe at the hotel. We are waiting in Hawaii now for the tsunami to hit. Hopefully it won't be as bad as predicted. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you guys are OK.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you are safe. Hope your trip home will go smoothly!
ReplyDeleteJenny,
ReplyDeleteI think Paul forgetting his jacket at the hotel was truly a blessing. His dad is watching over you and Paul. I'm so glad you're both OK. Just heard on CNN that the quake was the 5th strongest in the world since 1900. WHOA!!!
Glad you're safe! We are all fine here . . . Prayers to the people in Japan, the devastation is unreal.
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard about the quake, I thought about you two and prayed you were both OK. I'm glad to hear that you are.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is I was on video conference with Japan yesterday afternoon and I asked them how they were after the quake from the other day and they said they were used to it. Wow...so weird that such a big one hit only two hours later!
Take care and have a safe journey home!
