Island Scrapbooking Anniversary Sale Make 'n Take

Hi All! I'm very excited to show you my make 'n take project for the Island Scrapbooking Anniversary sale happening next week Saturday 10/16. I've been wanting to do this project as a class, but just couldn't figure out how to package the strawberries. After going back and forth on what kind of make 'n take to do for the sale day, I finally remembered about this strawberry box template that I had. I also remembered how to make this simple box but ended up sizing it down to fit the strawberries better. OK- so here's the scoop... if you want to make this strawberry box and basket, make sure you stop by Island Scrapbooking on Saturday 10/16 in the morning. I only cut 20 kits, so it will be first come, first served. Debi will be doing another make 'n take in the afternoon, so if you miss mine, you might be able to catch her's. Oh yah- and if possible, please bring your own scissors if you have them. This will move things along much quicker than if you have to share! In addition to the free make 'n takes, there will be prize drawings, games, and in-store specials on sale day only. This is Island Scrapbooking's biggest sale of the year, so you won't want to miss out on the festivities. Just Michele's way of saying thank you to all her loyal customers! Craft Night Make 'N Takes

Just thought I'd share with you the make 'n takes that we did at the last Craft Night at Island Scrapbooking. I used the Sizzix pie box die and stood it up so that the pont was facing upward. Its amazing how turning the die this way opened up so many more possibilities for using this die! We decided to go with the tree since it was a little easier to make. We used dew drops to decorate the tree and punched a star for the top. For the stump, we used either dove chocolates or peanut butter cups. The trees were filled with candy canes- basically everyone made their own favor from the party! One girl decided not to fill hers and use it as an ornament- I thought that was a good idea. Here's a close up of the tree. Akemi helped me decorate mine- we used this for the sample.

Here's where I got more creative. I actually saw a similar Santa in Paper Crafts Magazine, but it was a card. I just used my punches and cut them down a bit to fit better. As an afterthought, I asked Michele to emboss the beard with the swirls die- came out much nicer than the original. Everyone liked this idea too and wanted to copy it for future projects. I'm thinking there are other possibilities that I just haven't figured out how to do yet.

The other make 'n takes were by Tracy. She did a gift card holder AND a Christmas tag. I didn't write in the "to" and "from" so my tag in incomplete, but I just wanted to show it to you since it was very simple to make but I love the way it came out!

Two Scoops Rice Make 'N Take

Happy Sunday Everyone! I am headed to Ben Franklin today to take my daughter and her BFF to their Halloween make 'n takes. I'm sure it will be fun for both of them- and me too.

I forgot to post this earlier... this is the make 'n take that I did last week at Island Scrapbooking's Anniversary. We didn't know how many people would come and do the make 'n take, so I only cut about 20 kits. When the doors opened, I had so many customers people peeked in and came back later because it was full. Sorry ladies! Next time we'll plan for more people to join in... maybe we need have a bigger table too!

So I decided to use the Sizzix XL Scallop Bag die. It was funny to hear most of the customers say that they actually had that die at home but never made it yet! Hopefully this will inspire them to use it more. I also decided to use a stamp from one of the Two Scoops Rice sets since they were new to the store. They were so popular that the sets sold out immediately! Who can resist them? I couldn't... they are so cute!

Paper Party Make n Takes

Here's the make n takes we did at the Paper Party...

This is Cheryl's project. Its actually the Sizzix XL envelope die and she cut the windowpane on the front. Its the perfect size for a small treat. I gave away the candy that she gave us, so I put my own M&Ms inside so you can see how it works.

Surprise!!

Finally, at the BF station, we had a choice of cards. Most of us chose to do this card since it was very different. I had actually seen this card in a card maker magazine and wanted to try it, so this was the perfect opportunity! The gold you see that borders the DP is actually a gold leafing pen. It came out really nice... gotta remember to use that again.

Here's what it looks like when you start to open it. Its actually a gatefold card and you just attach the frames on the opposite flaps.

Teri's Make and Take

As promised, here's the make and take I did at Teri's. She's actually teaching a gift card class next month, which will include this project. I really really really want to go! She gave us a sneak peek at the other gift card holders that are included in the class and they are awesome! I give a lot of gift cards, so these will be very useful for me.

For the front of the holder, we used the new CC's design Halloween Stamps. I nicknamed her "pumpkin head". Guess I was just feeling silly.

Here's the magic part... when you open up the cover, the gift card pops up! Awesome yah?

Before I rushed off to pick up my husband at the airport (yes, he waited over an hour for me to pick him up... but he was busy watching the Thunderbirds anyway!), Teri told me to do the "bonus" project. I was puzzled when she gave me the already cut kit to make these cute gift cards.... She replied... "I always do a bonus project at my classes". Yippee! She's so awesome!

In addition to these two projects, Teri also showed us how to use the Martha Stewart spiderweb punches (border and corner) so that it connects perfectly. She said she learned how to do this from Cheryl...I'm so glad she shared this with us. I bought these punches, but haven't tried to use them together yet... now I know how to do it! Yay!

Wow! I didn't actually expect to go home with projects! Thanks again Teri for a fun filled day!

Later I'll post the other stuff we did this weekend (the real reason we went to Honolulu!).

Faux Cloissone and Make-and-Take

I was finally able to take an Island Scrapbooking class called Faux Cloissone a few months ago. I had seen the sample in the store for months, but just wasn't able to make any of the scheduled classes. The technique that was taught involved several steps. I'm glad I took the class because I don't think I'd ever be able to figure it out! Here's the 2 cards that I made in the class:

I also went to Ben Franklin last weekend and did a few of their make-and-takes. One of them was a washi covered wood box (not posted here). My daugther now uses it to collect change from around the house.

The first project featured here is a wall hanging. You could actually do two wall hangings, one with kanji and the other was with a fan. I really liked how they came out, but I don't know if I'd ever do them again.

The other project was a Girl's day card using a Hero Arts set. I don't think you can tell by the photo but the girls are actually stamped in layers. I had to cut out each layer (i.e. face, hair) separately and put them all together on one main image. Its very simple but came out cute. The dresses were stamped on mulberry paper so we didn't have to color them in. The hair on the middle girl was crimped with a paper crimper to give it texture. I thought that was a neat idea.
