Two Hearts

I've been really bad about making cards that we need to send out.  Surprisingly, I have a little mojo and don't have a Sister Stamps deadline in my face, so I was able to get a little crafty this weekend.

My husband asked me to make a wedding card for a co-worker.  Of course, he did not know if they had any colors or theme, so I had to wing it.  I thought it would be safe to stick with neutrals, so I went for gold and cream.  I've been stuck on making flowers and making cris cross cards, so I combined them both to come up with this...

This flower was inspired by this video by Jaizella who owns Lavish Laces. (Hi Jaizella!) It's a flatter version of Vicki's puffy flower.  If you haven't watched Vicki's tutorial yet, check it out here...  They are so addicting to make!
Finally, the inside card was done using a PTI set. I love the sentiment for weddings.  First I stamped the sentiment in archival ink.  To make sure it was totally dry, I used my heat gun on it.  After it was dry, I then stamped a Hero Arts heart using Versamark ink, then covered it with gold perfect pearls.  Love how it turned out.

Be back soon with another card to share... I was on a roll!

Surprise!

We had a surprise wedding to attend on Saturday... yup, found out about it on Friday night, so I was a bit rushed to make a card with less than 24 hours notice.  Now, I'm normally the type to procrastinate anyway, so I guess it wasn't that out of my comfort zone to rush a card.

I was totally inspired by a card featured on the Hero Arts Blog... by melstampz.  This card totally caught my eye and I knew I wanted to try one for myself.  Although this background stamp can be used for all occasions, I thought it would make a nice wedding card.

So I stamped the image on watercolor paper and embossed it with pearl embossing powder.  This is the first time I'm using that pearly powder, and I love it! Tried to get a shot so you can see the pearly-ness.  Then I colored in the flowers using my distress pens and TH water brush.  Then moved onto the leaves.  I did another version where I also colored in the background as well.

After I was done "painting", I matted the card onto some gold cardstock and tied a ribbon around it.  BTW- I could not for the life of me find pink sheer ribbon. Can you believe it?  I have TONS of ribbon, but couldn't find it in pink.. so I made my own!    Got my white sheer ribbon and just swiped my Spun Sugar Distress Ink pad over the top and then dried it with my heat gun.  Good enough for me!

I love this card so much I'm thinking of using this techinique in an upcoming class. Maybe if we ever do Stamp Camp 2!

And in case you haven't visited my Sister Stamps blog lately, please check it out!  We are celebrating our 1 year birthday with some candy!  Head on over every day this week for good fun!  Oh yah, and don't forget to check my make 'n take schedule next week on Oahu.. Hilo schedule coming soon!

Busy Weekend

Happy Monday! I'm still recovering from a long weekend (but feels like a very short one). We were super busy this weekend, but it was a lot of fun visiting family and friends.. My weekend started on Friday since we had furlough... I had to make a quick wedding card for my cousin who's getting married. Since I couldn't attend the ceremony, I had to make it this week to give to my mom who was planning on going. I guess the reason why I procrastinated so long was because I haven't made a wedding card in such a long time. I think I'm out of practice! I guess we are at the point in our lives where most of our friends are married, so weddings have slowed down. Anyway, I remembered a Dandelion image that I had and decided to use that as my focal point. Tracy reminded me of some cool striped satin paper at Island Scrapbooking that looks great on wedding cards, so I picked some up on Friday and got to work. Since I was giving $$, I decided to make a pocket to hold the gift. Here's a close up of the front of the card... And the reason for the rush rush on making the card is because we were headed to Honolulu for a very special event! Can you guess what we did by looking at the next picture?? OK- so that wasn't the best photo, but they wouldn't let us take pictures. Did you guess? We took Akemi to see Beauty and the Beast! I think I wanted to go more than she did! It was really good- better than I expected. Akemi really got into it- she was laughing and even cried (talking uncontrollably) during the performance. She said it was because Belle left the Beast. When we started talking about it again she said... "Stop talking about it or I'll start crying again!!". In addition to other numerous errands, we also stopped by to see our friend's new baby. Sigh... hard to believe Akemi used to be that small! Here's Akemi, Uncle Dayne and baby.. And here's the proud papa! Darn- forgot to take a photo of the new Mama! Next time. Hope you have a great week!
