Hoaloha Annual Dinner

Our club had our annual dinner this past Saturday night at Restaurant Miwa. It was a night of good food and good fun! We always give a little something to each other and this is what I came up with for this year. I decided to use my sister's bunnies again since its year of the rabbit. Chinese New Year was the previous week, but I thought it was close enough to still use this theme. Decided to go with the take out box and cut out a heart using my spellbinders and added some acetate for a window. I found some chocolate covered fortune cookies at Big Island Delights that just fit into the box! Phew! I wasn't about to dip and package my own, so I was grateful they fit just right! Here's some of the boxes up close... And here's our annual club photo. I think it came out nice this year.. you can tell our waiter had a lot of experience since he had to take about 10 photos using 10 different cameras!

More Memo Pad Holders..

Just thought I'd share more memo pad holders I made for the FCE Fair coming up this Saturday in Hilo. Since I had bought the 12 pack of memo pads, thought I'd use up the rest of them by making more holders. If you know me, you know I get bored pretty easily when it comes to crafting, so I have a hard time making the same thing over and over. Besides, isn't it more fun to get an original? Here's some of my favorites...
I love this project since it's pretty fast to make and it allows me to stamp and use my punches! :) Just got that daisy chain punch by EK Success and am loving it!

FCE Fair Sneak Peek

Every year, our club participates in the FCE Craft Fair in Hilo. This year, the fair will be held the day before Mother's day on May 7th at Aunty Sallys. Unfortunately, I can't go this year, so I thought I'd make some stuff for the club to sell. These memo pad holders are very simple to make, so I thought I'd whip up a few for the fair. This CC's Cherry Emma is my favorite one that I've made so far. I think what I like most about it is the background I created using my MS Crafts punches (grass and fence). This memo pad holder was made using HG Sing from TGF. She is a favorite here in Hawaii, so I thought it would be appropriate to accent her with Island Scrapbooking Laser Cuts (hibiscus and fern leaf). Here's a close up.... If you are in Hilo, hopefully you can make it to the fair! I'm also donating a lot of the cards I've featured here on this blog. I'll post more stuff I'm making later. Supplies:
  • Memo pads
  • DP- Lasting Impressions
  • H&G Sing- TGF
  • Cherry Emma- CC's Designs
  • Hibiscus and fern die cut- Island Scrapbooking
  • Stickles
  • fence and grass punch- Martha Stewart Crafts
  • Flowers- Prima
  • Butterfly punch- EK success
  • Pearl acccents- Hero Arts

Sweet Delights Swap

Every year, our club holds an annual "Sweet Delights Swap", which is another name for a recipe exchange. Since I was so busy working on the card kits, I decided to make something that didn't require any baking whatsoever. Since everyone else would be making something sweet, I went for salty. Since everyone who tastes the seasoned pretzels loves them, I thought this would be a good recipe to share with everyone.
The pretzel sticks reminded me of french fries, so I decided to use my fry box to wrap them up in. I'm using this fry box for a lot of other projects, so this will be the only time I'm posting it.
Now here's the cool part... Since the instructions is so minimal- add ingredients then shake, I tried to see if it could fit on the back of a tag. Yay- it fit!
If you can't see the recipe and want it, please email me (email address on my side bar), I'd be happy to share it with you! Beware, they are really addicting!

Cards for Hospice

Designed by Karen Inouye Hi Everyone! I sure had a busy weekend! First, I had a dreaded dentist appointment, then headed to teach my class, then prepped more kits for today's card making workshop, then went to today's Hoaloha meeting and made a lot of cards! Phew- where did the weekend go? Anyway, here are the cards we ended up making today to donate to Hospice. Our club does several service projects a year, and since Keiki Cards closed down, we started asking around to see if other organizations needed donated cards. My friend Karen I. had volunteered to coordinate this project, so I told her I'd help her out and come up with 2 cards. She came up with three by herself. Sorry, not sure where she got all her materials from, but I can list the supplies used for my cards. Anyway, they asked for cards for Thinking of You and Sympathy cards, so here's what we came up with. Designed by Karen Inouye Designed by Karen Inouye Supplies used: Leaf stamp- Stampin Up Thinking of You stamp- Hero Arts Dew Drops Ribbon Swiss dots embossing folder- Cuttlebug Cardstock- Bazzil Markers- Copics Supplies used: Butterfly stamp- Hero Arts Cherry blossom die- Sizzix With Sympathy sentiment- Custom Laser cut by Island Scrapbooking Markers- Copics Stickles Have a great week!

More Recycle Bags

For the FCE Fair, I decided to donate some Recycle bags. I decided to make mostly Hello Kitty because in case no one bought them, I would have recycle bags that I want! Well, it turns out all of the Hello Kitty ones sold out and I was left with the non- Hello Kitty ones. Guess I should have went with my instinct and done all of them in Hello Kitty! Anyway, here's some of my favorites.

FCE Fair

Hi Everyone! If you live in Hilo, or on the Big Island for that matter, be sure to stop by Aunty Sallys (7 seas) this Saturday for the FCE Craft Fair. Our club, Hoaloha, will have a booth there with ono goodies and crafts (of course). Hope to see you there! Also going on that day is Island Scrapbooking's Customer Appreciation Sale! I'm hoping I'll have time to stop by that day to check out the in store specials. Jenny

Hoaloha Projects

Hi Everyone! Yesterday's club meeting was very productive. Miyeko Yamane taught us all how to write Japanese Calligraphy. I had such a hard time but it was very interesting to learn. Yamane Sensei was nice enough to write our names for each of us who attended. I think I'm going to have mine framed. Here is Yamane Sensei demonstrating the correct way to write the kanji.
Here are all of the names Yamane Sensei wrote for us.
After our Calligraphy lesson, Amy taught us all how to make this cute notepad holder. When you open up the holder, there's even a pocket to hold all your stuff! She even made us matching pens to go with each notebook. I love the papers she choose. They colors coordinate so well together. I hope Amy decides to teach this class. I'm sure others will want to learn how to do this fast and easy project! I'm sorry I don't know what companies these supplies were from since Amy had all the supplies pre-cut. Thanks Amy! Here's the notebook I made.
Here's the inside. I put in the card so you can see the pocket.
Here's Amy with one of the notebooks.

Hoaloha Annual Dinner

Just got back from our FCE (Family, Community, Education) "Hoaloha" club's annual dinner. Instead of having a Christmas party, we hold it sometime in February since the holidays are so busy. This year our dinner was at Restaurant Miwa in Hilo. We sure had a blast! Here's a photos of the installation of the officers for this year.
The highlight of the evening (besides fun conversation) was definitely the BINGO game. Everyone kept stealing prizes from each other and fighting over specific ones. BINGO will never be the same again!
In addition to games, we also give each other little goodies- RAKs if you will. Here's the ones I made for my friends. I totally copied the idea from Jen Young of Pieces of Me blog. I couldn't resist. Those post it note holders are so cute!

I got A LOT of goodies too- too many to show here but here's a few that my friends made. The washi covered notebook and pen were by Amy Miwa. She couldn't stay, but she was so nice to drop off gifts for all of us!
The set of cards were made by Marcia Matsui. I'm pretty sure all of her cards were made with Stampin Up stamps.
A lot of the girls baked this year too! I have so many goodies to enjoy over the next couple of days. Overall, we had a great time.
