Chelsea Lately

Do you ever watch Chelsea Lately on E! It's pretty darn funny, so if you are up late, its good to have it on in the background when you craft. My husband always catches me laughing out loud when I'm watching it. Especially the round table part- its so funny when all the comedians are making fun of celebrities and pop culture. Anyway, I got this Chelsea stamp by the Greeting Farm recently. She doesn't look like Chelsea Handler, but since they share the same name, it reminds me of Chelsea Lately. As you can tell, I've been into the reddish brown hair lately. Not sure why, but I think I'm a little tired of brown hair, so red was a nice change. Made another double shaker box and now that I look at this photo, I'm kicking myself because if you read my last post, you are probably really confused yah? I think I wrote that I used dew drops in the back of that shaker, when I actually used them in this shaker. Did you even notice? I guess you caught me.... I was traveling this weekend and was trying to post that last post but my mom's computer is junk and you can't see the photo while posting. I guess I got mixed up and thought that I used the dew drops on that last shaker card, when I really used star confetti. Well, now I'm at home and figured out what I did- DUH! Sorry for the confusion! I'll just stop typing now... here's a close up to show you its a shaker... Two Scoops Rice- Inspiration Challenge

Have you ever been inspired by something? Well Maylee was this month's Challenge host for Two Scoops Rice and she chose this pillow from Crate and Barrel as our source of inspiration. We had to come up with a card/project that was inspired by this pillow. I found this exremely challenging since the colors are so dark, and I'm used to working with lighter colors. I know, you are thinking... that's why they call it a challenge! Right??
So here's the first card I came up with. Luckily, I found some DP that matched the look of this pillow! Its by My Little Shoebox and I loved it when I first saw it, but couldn't seem to figure out how to use it, so it just stayed in my drawer, until now.
Since the DP had flowers on it, I initially thought of using this cute bee stamp by TSR. Isn't it cute? Somehow I didn't do the bee justice though. I think it might be a junk layout that I used. I'm sure you can do better! If you want to enter this challenge, check out the Two Scoops Rice blog for more info.
Here's a close up of the bee...
Ok- so I knew I could a little better, so I decided to ink up one of my favorite fairies. This set comes with 3 fairies all holding different flowers (same pose). To add more drama, I cut black cardstock using my nesties and layered it on some bright yellow DP. I like how this one came out better. What do you think?
Here' s a close up of this cute fairy.
So come on and join the fun! The winner of this challenge will win a prize from Two Scoops Rice (and bragging rights too). You will have 2 weeks to submit your entry-please post the link to your entry on the Two Scoops Rice Challenge post. Good Luck! Can't wait to see all of your projects!

Double Shaker Love

I looked at the Martha Stewart microbeads I bought earlier and never used and decided it was time to bust them out and actually use them. These microbeads come in a cute container that is user friendly (kinda like a salt/paper shaker but with a cover). I only bought a few colors, but I'm thinking I should go back and get the whole set. So I decided to tackle that double shaker box again... I've only made that once and it was a lot of work, so I haven't really been motivated to do it again till now. Joy (A Place to be Me) and Teri (Big Ideas From A Little Girl) make it seem so easy to make! Anyway, I had some extra fun foam, so I thought it would be fun to try to make it again. In the back layer, I used dew drops- which seem to work well. The first one I made I put in flowers, but the flowers don't seem to move around that nicely. Maybe it was the type of flowers I used. Anyway, I wanted the "shaker" effect, so I used dew drops, which worked out much bettter. This photo shows you that its a shaker box better than the first photo.

1 Luvn Mama's Calendar

Hi Everyone! Just waned to share with you the calendar that I made for 1 Luvn Mama, the winner of my blogaversary candy. As you can see, she chose Gorguss Girls and the colors pink and brown (one of my favorites!). I don't have all the Gorguss Girls, just a few of my favorites, so I spread them out on the calendar.
I must say, its so much fun making stuff for other crafters! They really appreciate what you make for them... I just got an email from Mama and she was so happy- makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.. which is good for this cold Hilo weather.
Can't wait till next calendar season- hope the 2011 calendars come in soon!
Here's close ups of each month...

Oh Happy Day!

Boy was it a happy day when I got my hands on these cute stamps by The Greeting Farm! The set comes with this cute boy and a cutie pie girl. They are great for making kids cards. Love the dinosaurs he's playing with too. I doubt you can tell from these photos, but I used mini pop dots to layer his hair, arm/sleeve and dinosaur to give it some dimension. As you may already know, I am not a pro at boy cards, so this was a challenge for me. Even picking paper was a challenge! Couldn't find any dino paper in my stash, so had to go with the good o'l embossing folders and spellbinders. I really don't have anyone to give this to, so its going to Island Scrapbooking as another sample. Supplies: Boy stamp- TGF Emobssing folder- Cuttlebug Star die- Spellbinders Markers- Copics Cardstock- Bazzil

Spring Love

Do you remember that Stevie B. song Spring Love??? Gee, I'm really showing my age yah? Thought it would be the perfect title for this post... I think I've been visiting Amy's blog too often.. she uses song lyrics a lot in her posts.
I was inspired by one of my students recently, who decided to color her Anya Fairy's dress in Yellow. I normally choose pink but the yellow really caught my eye and I fell in love with yellow all over again. When I was a child, yellow was my favorite color but I drifted away from it as I got older and gravitated to pink, red, black and brown. I love color combos too, but none of them seem to include yellow. Thanks Gwen for renewing my interest in this awesome color!
I finally got my hands on these Miss Anya Love stamps and really really really wanted to use them. I had no particular project in mind, just wanted to make a card using this cutie. Since she was holding my favorite flower (daisies), I thought this was the perfect opportunity to use yellow in my project!

Frozen Yogurt Review

The last time I went back to Honolulu I went a little crazy trying all the frozen yogurt places! I just love frozen yogurt and am so glad to see their return after a couple of decades absence. When growing up, frozen yogurt was all the rage and Penguins was definitely my favorite! My BFF and I used to go to the Penguins in Kailua after school and would get our favorite combo- strawberry with cookies and cream scrapple. Yum! I was sad to see all the frozen yogurt places close, but was delighted to find that they've recently made a comeback! In the old days, the workers used to put on the toppings for you, but now they are smarter and let you do it yourself and charge you by weight.. Smart no? There are so many new frozen yogurt places in Honolulu- I don't know them all. I've only tried a handful of them and they all have their pros and cons. I guess it depends on your taste preference and geographic locations. I am hoping one of them will make their way to Hilo soon, but I'm not holding my breath (we don't have Costco or Genki Sushi yet, so I'm not optomistic). So, like everything else, I feel the need to overindulge myself in frozen yogurt every chance I get when I go home.... Looking forward to the next couple of weekends since I'll get my next fix! OK- so here are the frozen yogurt places I've tried so far... If you know of other good ones to try, please let me know the name and approximate location so I can try them out when I'm in the area. Yogurtland (University): This is the first one I heard of and now I know why all the buzz. The yogurt is very creamy and very Penguin's like. (Please note that I will be comparing them to my favorite Penguins!). They had a pretty good selection of topping and flavors to choose from. I went with my Aunty after a long day of craft shopping and it hit the spot! I had strawberry and coconut and cookies and cream. She had pistachio and a couple of other flavors that I forget, because the pistacio flavor stood out. If you get a chance, choose that one! Yogurtland was one of my favorites! Plus its conveniently located near all my scrapbook store stops when I go shopping. Perfect for a cool pick me up in the afternoon. The only junk thing for me was that I wanted to buy some to take to my BFF's house but they didn't have any that were pre-packed. You had to make it yourself- I guess that's not such a bad thing. The other downside is the lack of parking. If you go when its crowded, you may not find any. I have no idea if there are any other yogurtland shops- maybe Linda or Edward knows?? Menchies (Ward Warehouse): Menchies was recommended to me by my BFF. The location is good since there's lots of parking. This was actually the first frozen yogurt place I tried, so of course I thought it was awesome! Now that I've tried some other places, I think its fallen in ranking, but I'd still go if it was nearby. Its been awhile since I've gone there, so I can't remember what flavors I tried, but I remember it was not as creamy as some of the other yogurt places. They also have several workers there at a time, so I always got good service. Yogurt Mama (Kailua): This is my other favorite frozen yogurt place! Not only is it in my hometown, so its very close to mom's, it also has the cutest logo (made by TGF creator Marie). I must say that their yogurt is very creamy and yummy! The first time I went there, they had a toasted marshmallow flavor. I haven't seen it since but if you ever do, I highly recommend it! The only downside is the parking lot is small and shared by a bunch of businesses. We were always able to find parking though- so maybe its not that big an issue. Orange Tree (Kailua): This place just opened in Kailua, but I hear that they are all over the island. We stopped there after a hard day of cleaning the yard and before going to the Bon Jovi Concert. It was very refreshing, but the texture reminded me of Menchies. Still good, but not as creamy. I had the green tea, which was excellent- I would definitely get that flavor again if they have it! They have a parking lot in the back of the building, so you shouldn't have any problems finding parking. Overall, I am thrilled to have the option of having frozen yogurt again! It totally brings back good memories for me but has an updated flair. Can't wait to go back and have some more!! Please let me know what your favorite frozen yogurt place is so I can try them out too!

Lucky Me!

I was so stoked to win this blog candy from Amy (A Thousand Sheets of Paper). She is the artist for Sweet November Stamps, which are quickly becoming some of my favorites! I just loved her elves that came out for Christmas and were so excited to see them return for Easter! Guess Santa isn't the only one who has helpers! Not only did I win the new Spring Elves set, she also sent me the cute card sample and other goodies shown here. Thank you so much Amy!!! Can't wait to use them!

A Tisket A Tasket...

Don't know if you remember, but last Halloween I made this same box, but used black paper instead for a scarier effect. Since its springtime, decided to go with the white picket fence instead and used my icicles punch again to make grass. See how good I'm being? I really want the grass border punch, but I'm trying to be good and not spend money- so need to be more creative and find ways to get the same effect. Thank you to Cheryl of Life is Sweet, who did this same thing on an earlier project.
I was pretty excited to use my new Easter Anya stamp! She was available only in digi form last year when I wasn't into stamping that involved coloring. Now that I have my Copics, I'm hooked! Digi Easter Anya was only available for a limited time, so I was glad to see she is now in rubber form!
Here's a close up of this cutie...
Oh yah... Island Scrapbooking also sells these cute bunnies! Thought they would be a cute accent to this basket.
